Meeting of active citizens and lawyers on the right to freedom of assembly. Exchange of Experience
Dear citizens, on March 12, at 11:30, we invite all active citizens and lawyers representing them in court to a round-table discussion. The event will take place at the Urartu Hall of “Erebuni Plaza” business center of Yerevan (address: VazgenSargsyan 26/1).
Since 2013, our organization has been implementing the “Self-sufficient civil activism from A to Z” program, within the framework of which the rights and interests of citizens violated by the police during various peaceful assemblies are represented. About 260 cases related to such cases are in different-instance domestic courts: some of them have already been resolved while the other part is still in process. Issues related to active citizens’ cases will be discussed during the meeting. The program is sponsored by the European Endowment for Democracy, which supports local democracy organizations.
We will also watch the film “The Chronicle of the Conquest in the Fight for Rights” on the citizen’s violated rights and the struggle for their rehabilitation during the 2013-2015 peaceful assemblies.
Following the discussion on the film and issues raised by citizens, we will present the “Public Oversight of Public Officials” program sponsored by the National Endowment for Democracy. The mission of the foundation is to support organizations struggling for democracy across the world. The goal of the project is to monitor the selection and appointment of public officials, which will give an opportunity to select worthy candidates and increase the effectiveness of the state apparatus. It should be noted that since 2014 within the framework of the program we have observed numerous competitions for the recruitment of public officials. Our observations will be presented in more details during the meeting. We will also provide training for all those who wish to participate in our observation missions or to carry out observation missions in other non-governmental organizations.
