on the adoption of the Law “On Launching the Accession Process of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union”

The European Union-Armenia Civil Society Platform welcomes the National Assembly’s adoption of Law “On Launching the Accession Process of the Republlic of Armenia to the European Union” on February 12, 2024.

We deeply appreciate the efforts invested by the members of this initiative, including the Republic Party, the For the Republic Party, the European Party of Armenia, and civil society, particularly the members of this Platform. We extend our special gratitude to those citizens of Armenia who contributed to the petition and supported the initiative through their words and actions. Your efforts are paving the way for a historic chapter in the future of our state.

In this regard, we urge the European Union to lend its support to the efforts of the Armenian government, opposition, and civil society in their pursuit of EU membership, by applying a creative approach and leveraging expert capabilities.

In implementation of the Law, we call on the Government of the Republic of Armenia to:

  • Establish an interdepartmental commission on the Republic of Armenia’s EU membership, composed of the heads of the sectoral state bodies, and personally chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia,
  • Form an adjunct working group, including representatives from the EU-Armenia Civil Society Platform, and promptly establish collaboration with European Union partners to launch the development of the roadmap, necessary for Armenia’s EU membership,
  • Finalize the fulfillment of the commitments already undertaken before the EU, ensuring their completion within the shortest possible time.

The EU-Armenia Civil Society Platform will assist in the effective implementation of the process through its advisory, monitoring, and awareness-raising functions.
