Workshop for the Justices and Specialised Staff of the Constitutional Court

On 26-27 January, a workshop on the domestic legal framework and the international standards of professional ethics and integrity was held with the justices and specialised staff of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia.

Judge Esther de Rooij, Vice-President of the Court of Amsterdam and Ms Haykuhi Harutyunyan, former Chairperson of the RA Corruption Prevention Commission were the invited speakers for the event. Justice Vahe Grigoryan, Vice-President of the Court, Justice Seda Safaryan, Justice Edgar Shatiryan and members of the specialised staff of the Court took part in the workshop.

Ms Lousineh Hakobyan, President of Europe in Law Association presented the project actions related to the introduction of the ethics and integrity standards within the Court, noting that the final outcome of these actions will be the drafting and adoption of the internal ethics and integrity guidelines of the Court.

On the first day of the workshop, Ms Haykuhi Harutyunyan spoke about the domestic legal framework on ethics and integrity, while Judge de Rooij introduced the international ethics and integrity standards, as well as the best practice of the Dutch judiciary. Additionally, issues related to the state of the rule of law in Europe were discussed.

On the second day of the event, Esther de Rooij and Haykuhi Harutyunyan touched upon the application of ethics and integrity standards in practice through in-depth discussion of case studies. The legal content of the principle of judicial impartiality was extensively discussed.

The workshop was organised by the NGO Europe in Law Association with the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Yerevan within the project Institutional Support to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia.
